Pro Tip for Voiceover Talent!
Remember sentence diagramming?
I incorporate sentence diagramming into my process every time I record, without even thinking about it. By now, it’s second nature. My brain instinctively breaks down the copy, and I see how the copy plays out before I speak.
THE NAME CHANGE CHRONICLES
Deciding to finally change up my name to my legal name across-the-board has been like hopping on an unending, nauseating rollercoaster. Exciting? Absolutely! I legitimately can’t wait to embrace my legal name. But I truly had no idea what was in store for me in terms of all that needs to change…dominos are falling!!!
Of course, I realize I’m screaming into the wind right now, since I made this nightmare for myself. The concept made sense to me…or must have at some point recently, and I was super excited to dive in…but wow, the lists and documents and letters and annoyance to others…ups and downs, slowing down to speed up, I’m surprised I’m not popping Zofran like candy.

DO YOU KNOW WHO MARNI NIXON WAS?
Do you know the name Marni Nixon? You know the voice. And you should know the name.
And that’s the whole point. We all have our heroes, and she’s one of mine. I’d always been fascinated with her career, having read her 2006 memoir, I Could Have Sung All Night: My Story, years ago. I devoured it, amazed at how she dubbed Audrey Hepburn singing in “My Fair Lady”, Natalie Wood in “West Side Story” (“I Feel Pretty”), and WAY more.
Marni Nixon led the way in dubbing, when those who dubbed were not ever credited. She was a singer, one who led the way in crediting talent. A ghost singer, she was called.
THE BRATTLE IN BOSTON IS BACK!

The Brattle Theatre, Cambridge, MA
The Brattle Theatre… It’s BACK!
This is incredibly exciting news, for Boston and for all small independent movie theaters, as this was not the case for many. When the Covid-19 pandemic hit, it hit theaters hard.
When I was in my 20’s, I lived in South Boston and would often find myself in Harvard Square with friends at the marvelous little theater that just felt so cozy, would play classic and new films and was just…the best. I took myself a couple of times, as my own date, too. The smaller theater, the sense of walking into history, into community, into a local spot, reminded me of being a little girl in Hollywood. These memories are the best, and every time I’m back in Boston, I try to go. In fact, anytime I travel, I keep an eye out for the local independent theaters, to get the feeling of being home away from home.
GIVING BACK TO MY ALMA MATER, BUTLER UNIVERSITY

Post-Production Audio Course | Butler University College of Communication, Indianapolis, IN
Earlier this year, I had a fabulous time sharing my experiences in the voiceover world with some awesome Butler University College of Communication students. It was an honor to share as much as I could (which wasn’t easy in just one class!) about ADR, looping and voiceover.
BACK IN THE RECORDING STUDIO

Voice Over Recording Session | Salami Studios, North Hollywood, CA
This voiceover nerd was beyond excited to be back in-person at a recording studio this month. Will June 2021 become the month our world (kinda, sorta, but not really) goes back to ‘normal’?
Who really knows what ‘normal’ is anymore anyway? read more…

“Say cheese!” It’s the age-old formula for the perfect smile when you have your picture taken. When you look into the camera and position your teeth just so to make the “ch” sound, science says it creates an automatic smile. For me, the biggest, most honest smile happens when I can simply be myself. And the most genuine version of myself doesn’t just say cheese. She says “Cheesy!” read more…
